Shaver Promoted To Sergeant By Antelope County Sheriff

​John Shaver has spent about a decade earning his stripes as a deputy with the Antelope County Sheriff's Department. Now, he has the stripes to show for it. 

Sheriff Bob Moore promoted Shaver to sergeant and call him deserving of the promotion. He recalled his first meeting with Shaver, who was “missing in action” and hospitalized after breaking his leg.

“I just wanted to let him know I would be there for him,” Moore said. “John has turned that around, and he has been there for me for eight years. Through thick and then, this guy very rarely turns me down.”

Besides his standard duties as a deputy, Shaver also oversees the county’s D.A.R.E. program. Shaver goes into the classrooms all around Antelope County once a week for 10 weeks. And for Shaver, it’s more than just teaching the kids about drugs, alcohol, or bullying.

“A lot of it is getting to know the kids and letting them get to know a law enforcement officer in a positive environment rather than always being in a negative environment,” Shaver said.  “Being in a small community like we are, I will see all these kids in different sporting events and at the different towns. On duty and off duty, they recognize who I am and it’s good to see the advancements they are making.”
