2020 Social Media - HealthCare Hero
Easily one of the most fun aspects of 2020 was recognizing our local healthcare heroes. Utilizing social media, we teamed up with our local sign company to recognize those in the medical field — doctors, nurses, EMTs, etc. This occurred around April 10-11.
Using Facebook, we asked for the first 100 names (addresses privately sent to us) of healthcare workers in our coverage area. It took just a couple of hours to gather the names because everyone wanted to honor their friends and family. Then we joined the sign company on the long trek across the county surprising our healthcare heroes. We have nine communities, so it took two days to distribute all of the signs, but it was well worth it.
For those who were home, we took photos (socially distanced and prior to any mask mandates) with the heroes and posted them. It helped people know what town we were in because we had so many heroes, and it also started spreading the word about the effort. It absolutely exploded. The community showed their appreciation, the heroes were blown away and we were tickled to be a part of it. Most of the heroes took photos of the signs and posted them on social media, tagging us.
Here is a message from a local RN:
Came home to this last night. Not going to lie.....it brought a tear to my eye. Thank you to whoever put the sign in my yard & to whoever nominated me. I am truly touched. Also, a huge thank you to Blackburn Manufacturing Company & to Antelope County News. What an awesome thing to do! What a great community we live in! Thank you to everyone for all the love & support during these trying times. We are all heroes.....and we are all in this together.
It was incredible and thanks to social media, we were able to share the experience, joy and appreciation.
We reached more than 300,000 people with our Facebook posts. As for how many saw the posts we were tagged in — we have no idea. Regardless of the stats, this was incredible for our community and the support our heroes needed to feel.
