2021 Social Media - April Fools Violations
We've always wanted to play an April Fool's prank; however, we didn't want to risk our credibility by running a fake story online in the paper. After all, we don't want to be accuse of fake news. That's when we came up with parking tickets. On first look, the word "violation" is front and center, which was funny because Antelope County, Nebraska, only has 6,500 people. There are no parking tickets here.
The violation marked said "being a victim of the Antelope County News 2021 April News" prank. Each "violator" was then instructed to return their ticket to us to redeem a free print subscription with their citation. To ensure there was no confusion, we posted an image online for the ticket, which garnered a ton of attention. After all, it was a harmless April Fool's prank that proved to be fantastic marketing as readers continued talking about the prank.
