The Oakdale Booster Club Soup Supper has been postponed to Saturday, February 25, at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oakdale community Center.
The Oakdale Booster Club will be hosting a soup supper on Friday to raise funds for the annual community celebration.
From 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, the booster club will be serving a variety of soups and sandwiches at the Oakdale Community Center. The meal is a free will donation. There will be a number of soups, including chicken noodle, chili, potato and broccoli and cheese soup. There will also be chicken salad, ham salad and cheese sandwiches. Dessert will be on hand as well. One person was transported by Neligh Rescue following a two-vehicle accident southeast of Oakdale on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred just after 2 p.m. about 1 mile south and 1 1/2 miles east of Oakdale on a dead end road. The Oakdale Fire Department, Neligh-Oakdale Jaws of Life, Neligh Rescue, Antelope County Sheriff's Department and Neligh Police Department responded. No other information is available at this time. A garage was fully engulfed in flames on Tuesday night when firefighters responded to the call on the south side of Oakdale.
The call came in around 9:45 p.m. Officials on scene with the Oakdale Volunteer Fire Department said the garage at 601 Hohman Street caught fire when the occupant, Scott Williams, was working inside the building. Officials said the garage is a total loss and estimated the damage at about $2,500. No injuries were reported. A benefit poker run for Byron and Barb Roland will be held Saturday, August 13. Byron and Barb were involved in a motorcycle accident nearly a year ago. Soon after, Barb was diagnosed with a rare form of oral cancer. The funds from the benefit will go to help the couple pay for medical expenses and travel costs. The poker run will be a full day filled with various events for everyone. Check-ins will begin at 10 a.m. at the Oakdale Community Center. Registration is $20 per rider and $10 for passengers. Riders will leave at 11 a.m. At 4 p.m. there will be a pulled pork supper with free-will donation. The meal will also include chips, beans and various salads and desserts. During the meal, there will be a silent auction, lasting until 8:30 p.m. The night will end with karaoke, beginning at 9 p.m. Weather permitting, maintenance forces will begin armor coating on US-275 from Oakdale to Meadow Grove next week.
According Nebraska Department of Roads Highway Maintenance Superintendent Tony Tschirren, work is expected to begin on Monday, July 25. Tshirren said traffic will be maintained with flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists can expect reduced speed, slight delays and loose gravel on the roadway. A former Village of Oakdale clerk was granted parole from prison Friday, June 17.
Megan Brandt's parole grant comes just short of a year from being sentenced June 24, 2015. The sentence was given after Brandt pled no contest to felony theft in Antelope County District Court as part of a plea deal. An investigation from the state auditor's office turned up over $50,000 in funds that Brandt stole from the Village of Oakdale between December of 2012 and her resignation in October of 2014. The largest cemetery in Antelope County drew quite a crowd Monday morning for the annual Memorial Day ceremony.
Rev. Ryan Eden of Tilden and Meadow Grove gave the message. The Neligh-Oakdale band performed and the Battle Creek-Meadow Grove-Tilden American Legion Post provided color and honor guard. A group of about two dozen people spent Sunday morning placing flags at the Oakdale Cemetery. An avenue of flags leads visitors through the 26-acre Oakdale Cemetery, past the monument honoring Civil War veterans - just across the way from the final resting place of a Nebraska governor.
