During her search, she even discovered she had a relation that was an Orphan Train rider. The event is sponsored by Cover to Cover Book Club. Oakdale hosted Antelope Days on Saturday and were lots of smiles, especially during the bounce houses for the kids, which also included a waterslide.
Among the many activities on the day were a cake walk, car show, barbecue and dance. A family is asking for the Antelope County community's help in finding their lost dog.
Keyra, an Australian Shepherd, was last seen by her family near Oakdale on August 5. She has a pink collar and was adopted in Kansas, so the family believes she may be heading back that way. If found or if anyone has any information, they are encouraged to call 402-710-8021. An Oakdale woman was arrested Monday night for allegedly threatening to kill a woman and her unborn baby.
A little before 10 p.m. Norfolk Police responded to 10th Street and Elm where reports of a disturbance were called in. When police arrived, some of the people involved in the disturbance had left. On scene was a female victim who told police that 20-year-old Tori Starman of Oakdale had pushed her against a vehicle. According to the victim, Starman and 22-year old Keyawna Hightree then threatened to kill her and her unborn baby. The victim, along with three witnesses, provided an account of the assault as well as a description of the car the suspects left in. Hightree and Starman were located and then placed under arrest. During a search, officers found a knife with a 4-inch blade as well as a smaller butcher knife in Hightree’s sweatshirt pocket. Hightree also had a scale and meth on her. Starman was arrested for terroristic threats and Hightree was arrested for terroristic threats, possession of a concealed weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Both were taken to Norfolk City Jail before being transferred to Madison County Jail. (courtesy of News Channel Nebraska) The Village of Oakdale has received $385,100 from USDA Rural Development leveraged with other funding of $250,000 to complete the village’s $635,100 water improvement project.
Funds will construct a new municipal groundwater supply well, install new water meters and replace a water main. The village has two current municipal groundwater wells, but only one well is the main source of water for the water system, the second well is only used in emergency situations. The village has experienced water loss of more than 15 percent in the past. This is likely due to outdated water meters that were installed in 1981 and distribution system leaks. The Water & Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas. The annual Memorial Day Program was held at the Oakdale Cemetery on Monday.
Fallen military men and women were honored as a large crowd gathered for the service. A record number of youth were in Oakdale early Saturday afternoon for the annual Easter egg hunt in the park.
More tan 1,700 eggs were filled with candy and money. About 50 stuffed animals were handed out to the younger participants. With the lenten season drawing to an end, the Oakdale Volunteer Fire Department wants to give you one more opportunity to enjoy some Friday night fish.
OVFD will be hosting a Fish Fry on Friday, April 7 starting at 5 p.m. at the Oakdale Community Center. They will serve until 8 p.m. It'll be $10 for adults and children 12 and under are just $5. For that, you can get all you can eat fish, coleslaw, fries, drink and dessert. All proceeds will go to the fire department for use for training and equipment. Texting while driving is being blamed for an accident early Sunday evening in Antelope County.
Sheriff Deputy John Shaver said Karina Martinez, 19 of Norfolk, was cited following a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Rath and Fourth Street in Oakdale at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Shaver said he received a report of erratic driving and was then called that the vehicle in question had just been involved in an accident. Martinez was driving a 2003 Chevy Malibu. Shaver said it's unknown if seat belts were in use. |
