Orchard Public School and Clearwater Public School have cancelled classes on Wednesday due to the weather.
Highways across Antelope County are completely snow covered this morning, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, after nearly a foot of snow fell overnight.
Neligh is reporting 10.5 inches of light, dry snow. However, the highways remain snow packed due to the vehicles driving on the powdery snow. Snowplows are out across the area clearing highways. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Antelope County residents woke up to nearly a foot of snow Wednesday morning.
Although 6-8 inches was predicted from the National Weather Service, totals Wednesday around the Neligh area are between 10.5-11 inches of snow. Highways across the county are completely snow covered, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Elgin and St. Boniface have canceled classes Wednesday due to the weather. The bloodmobile is still scheduled, but students are not required to help.
The city of Neligh has issued a snow emergency effective 6 p.m. tonight, Feb. 19, through 12 o'clock noon on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Residents are asked to please remove vehicles from public streets for snow removal. Are you ready for more snow? The National Weather Service is reporting snowfall totals of "at least 4 inches" are expected with the pending storm.
A Winter Weather Advisory begins at 6 p.m. tonight and will last through 9 a.m. Wednesday. The NWS reports that snow could be heavy at times and new snow accumulation of up to 7 inches is possible tonight. Southeast winds of 6 to 11 mph are expected. The low temperatures will be around 11 degrees tonight. Antelope County's two-day totals are predicted to be anywhere from 6 to 8 inches. Travel difficulties are expected due to this storm. Elkhorn Valley will have a two-hour late start on Monday due to the weather. There will be no preschool.
