Jayden Arehart put on one of his most impressive performances of the year on the mound on Monday to give Neligh a huge upset win over top-seeded Bloomfield/Wausa.
In the C1 Area Junior Legion Tournament in Neligh, the host team kept their state tournament hopes alive by shutting down B/W 8-1. It wouldn't have been possible without the ace pitching of Jayden Arehart. He threw six innings against the high-scoring top seed, striking out nine batters and only allowing one run, the leadoff man in the first inning. Overall, he gave up just six hits on the night.
The Neligh pitchers continued to awe the packed house when Garret Belitz came on in relief in the seventh inning. Pitching for the first time ever as a Junior Legion player, Belitz sat down the top three hitters for Bloomfield/Wausa, including one strikeout, for the save.
Offensively, Arehart helped his own cause with a bases clearing triple in the second and scoring a run in the fourth. Neligh got two runs in the second and third innings and four in the fourth for the win.
Neligh now heads into Tuesday night with a chance for a state tournament berth.
