Things started a bit slow, but Elgin Public/Pope John's girls were able to shake off the Christmas break rust to advance to the Madison Holiday Tournament championship.
The Wolfpack put in an impressive performance on Friday, using an exceptionally strong transition offense to put away the Madison girls 64-24. The Wolfpack outscored the Dragons 33-5 in the second half en route to the win.
Stats will be added as they become available.
The boys weren't quite as fortunate, however. EPPJ battled Madison closely in the first half, entering the break trailing just 16-14. However, they managed just 11 second-half points while giving up 25 as Madison put down the Wolfpack 41-25.
Hunter Reestman led the way with 11 points, with eight of those coming in the first quarter alone. Ashton Evans added five and Kyle Schumacher added four. Reestman added a team-high five rebounds as well.
