An Orchard graduate was transported to a Sioux City hospital following a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Sunday evening.
According to Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger, 39-year-old Roy Waterman or Norfolk, a 1996 Orchard graduate, was northbound on Grandview Avenue near the Off Road Ranch southeast of Norfolk around 5:45 PM when he crashed. He lost control of his vehicle, entered the east ditch and was ejected from his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was unconscious for five to 10 minutes and suffered possible internal injuries.
He was treated by Norfolk Fire and Rescue and was then flown by Life Net medical helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Waterman was wearing a helmet. The investigation is ongoing and it is possible that alcohol played a factor.
In an update from his family on Facebook, an MRI revealed multiple fractures in his upper spine and neck along with a multiple disks compacted at mid-chest. He also injured multiple ribs.
