Memorial services for Delbert “Sonny” Carl Jr., age 79, of Ewing, NE will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Ewing United Methodist Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Momo Larena, officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 5 -7 p.m. at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Burial will be Ewing City Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Sanders American Legion Post #214 and Legion Riders. Sonny passed away peacefully July 27, 2019 at Faith Region Hospital in Norfolk. Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.snidermemorialfh.com Delbert, better known to friends and family as "Sonny," was born in Star, NE on October 24, 1939, to Delbert and Adeline Carl. On December 26, 1958, Sonny married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Wright. Sonny graduated from Ewing Public School in 1958 where he was an all-around athlete. While attending high school he joined the National Guard. Upon graduating, Sonny joined the army where he went on to become a paratrooper at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. After paratrooper training, Sonny was stationed in Germany. He received an honorary discharge from the service in 1961. Sonny and Patricia raised their family on a small dairy farm south of Ewing, NE where they raised livestock and put up hay. He was an avid waterfowl hunter with his trusty hunting companion “Caesar.” Sonny also enjoyed fishing and coyote hunting. He was a skilled card player at the local feed store and belonged to the Texas Hold’ Em card club. Delbert “Sonny” is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; sister Ruby Williamson; sister-in-laws Bonnie (Don) Drey and Janet Carl; children Debra (Jerry) Wagner, Danny Carl, Denise (Jon) Kasperbauer, and Dawn (Mick) McIntire; grandchildren Jennifer (Dan) Cunningham, Jeremy (Page) Wagner, Joe (Amber) Wagner, Shelbi Sisson, Hilary (Ashton) Ferguson, Emalee Kasperbauer, Chase McIntire, and Cassidy McIntire; great grandchildren Blake, Elise, and MacKenzie Cunningham, Wyatt, Brenna and Mathias Wagner, Charlie, Paityn, Patrick and Collins Wagner, Weston and Wayge Ferguson; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Loriane and Roy Wright, step-father, Art Ruerode. Brother, Marvin; brother-in-laws: Richard Williamson and Royce Wright. an infant grandson, many friends, and Army buddies. |
