Dozens of vehicles remain stranded along highways throughout Antelope County after more than 10 inches of heavy snow fell Wednesday.
The Nebraska Department of Roads has its full fleet of snowplows on the highways this morning pushing snow, but travel is still not advised at this time. Dozens of vehicles remain stuck after trying to break through the heavy snow. View the latest weather-related announcements, including school closings Precipitation started by mid-morning Wednesday and didn't change to ice pellets until about 6 p.m. Thunder could be heard as it quickly changed to snow. Snowfall totals vary throughout the county with the eastern region reporting over 10 inches of snow. Totals were less in the western and northern region of Antelope County. Winds gusted over 40 mph Wednesday as the Winter Weather Warning was extended until 4 a.m. with this storm. Winds are expected to lessen throughout Thursday. Temperatures will be near 40 on Thursday and will help with snowmelt on the roadways, although not with city streets until they are cleared. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 50s on Friday. |
