Flood Warning For Elkhorn River Extended To Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service extended the flood warning for the Elkhorn River in Holt County through Tuesday. 

The Elkhorn River crested at 8.2 feet on Monday afternoon in Atkinson but remained over 8 feet yet on Tuesday. 

More than 7 inches of rain fell during the month of April, saturating the ground and leading to flooding after three-plus inches fell Friday and Saturday.

Flooding was first reported in Atkinson on Saturday morning with a flood warning issued by the National Weather Service through Monday and later extended through Tuesday. 

Flooding downstream followed, including in the Clearwater and Neligh areas. A flood warning was not issued in Antelope County.

Although the river was out of its banks in rural areas, there was no flooding reported within the Neligh city limits, including at the Neligh Mill Bridge, which was damaged in the 2010 flood and reopened about 18 months ago.

On Tuesday, the Elkhorn River was at 7.05 feet in Neligh. Flood stage is not until 11 feet.
