Tilden, Meadow Grove Firemen Respond To Cornfield Fire

About 40 to 50 acres of farmland caught fire this afternoon southwest of Tilden. 

Firefighters from the Tilden and Meadow Grove departments responded to the fire located 2 1/2 miles southwest of Tilden.

According to officials on scene, the fire appears to have been started by a spark from welding occurring on a center pivot in the cornfield. Thanks to nearly 30 mph wind gusts, the fire quickly spread to a nearby bean field.

Fire was contained thanks to volunteers from both fire departments and assistance from about 10 local farmers in tractors with discs. 

No injuries were reported.
