Six Elkhorn Valley Wrestlers Earn Medals At Creighton Invite

The Elkhorn Valley wrestling team opened the invite season with a seventh-place finish at Creighton thanks to six medalists.

Alejandro Martinez led the Falcon attack by winning the 120-pound division. In a hard fought championship, Martinez pinned Dominique Rickard of Plainview at 5:57.

Also making it the finals, Darren Stewart finished runner-up at 132. Trenton Steinkraus of Plainview earned the 11-2 major decision for the win. The two will see each other several more times this season. 

At 145 pounds, Josh McFarland pinned Brady Oliver of Pender at the one-minute mark to claim the third-place medal. His only loss of the day was a 6-0 decision to Cole Aschoff of Plainview in the semifinal. 

Shawn Klinetobe finished fifth at 182 pounds, defeating Dakota Crosley of Niobrara/Verdigre by fall at 2:16. Klinetobe lost two matches on the day, both to Elias Alvarez of Norfolk. 

Both Mitchell Petersen and Brock Schaecher finished sixth. At 132 pounds, Petersen lost a 14-9 decision to Alex Schmit of Randolph while Schacher was pinned in 4:23 by Jayden Arehart of Neligh-Oakdale at 160 pounds.
