Quilt Show, Programs Set At Tilden Library During Prairie Days

While you’re out and about partaking in all of the fun activities during the Tilden Prairie Days Celebration weekend, July 27-29, take a break from the heat and visit the Raymond A. Whitwer Tilden Public Library to enjoy the events being offered, or just stop in and browse. The library will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Find some great bargains at the library’s Prairie Days used book sale, which will begin in the library on Monday, July 23, and will run through the Prairie Days weekend. There will be a variety of books to choose from on designated tables.

Beginning Friday, July 27, visit the 16th Annual Pieces of the Good Life Quilt Show and delight in the many beautiful hand-made and heirloom quilts and quilted items on display. The quilt show, which will be held in the library’s Lied Auditorium, will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Tilden Quilt Show Committee and the Tilden Library Foundation.

On Saturday, July 28, join the community at the library fireplace at 2 p.m. for a presentation & book signing from author Jeff Barnes as he discusses his latest book 150@150: Nebraska’s Landmark Buildings at the State’s Sesquicentennial and hear about Nebraska’s rich architectural history dating back to territory days to the modern structures of today. In his book, 150 featured buildings cover a broad section of history including homes from famous people, government, religion, arts & culture, ethnic groups and much more. This event is free and his full-color book will be available for purchase.

On Sunday, July 29, the library will present Yvonne Hollenbeck at 3 p.m., sharing her presentation “Patchwork of the Prairie” in the library. An
award-winning quilter and the nation’s top award-winning and most published cowgirl poet, Hollenbeck will entertain with a trunk show of family quilts made on the prairies of Nebraska spanning 5 generations, providing a glimpse of life during the past 130 years through patchwork.

Both programs on Saturday and Sunday are sponsored by the Tilden Library Foundation, along with Humanities Nebraska, who provides major funding and support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and private donations.
