Nearly 500 Attend Elkhorn Valley Junior High Choral Clinic

Nearly 500 students are at the 44th annual Junior High Choral Clinic this afternoon at Elkhorn Valley. The public is invited to attend the concert performance at 5:30 p.m. in Tilden.

Nearly 500 students are at the 44th annual Junior High Choral Clinic this afternoon at Elkhorn Valley. Seventeen schools from across Northeast Nebraska are attending the event.

The public is invited to attend the concert performance at 5:30 p.m. in Tilden. Adults are $3, students are $2 and children five and under are free.

Participating schools are Battle Creek, Bloomfield, Boone Central- Michele Wright, Clearwater-Orchard, Elkhorn Valley, Humphrey St. Francis, Lindsay Holy Family, Neligh-Oakdale, Newman Grove, Norfolk Catholic, Norfolk Junior High, Pope John, Randolph, Schuyler, St. Michael’s, Wayne Middle School and Wheeler Central.

Kathy Huerta-Simpson is the guest clinician and is accompanied by Ginger Bruzek.

Huerta-Simpson is in her 10th year as a Director of Vocal Activities at Millard West High School in Omaha after serving in a similar position at Scottsbluff High School for 10 years. She began her teaching career in 1980 at Creighton and subsequently taught instrumental and vocal music at various schools throughout the state. She has appeared throughout Nebraska and the west-central region as a guest clinician, adjudicator and choreographer, and has spent summers as an actor and choreographer in regional theater.  

Bruzek began accompanying for the Norfolk Jr. High choirs and show choir in the fall of 2011. She is a graduate of Augustana College and has accompanied for many schools and church choirs over the years, in addition to teaching private piano lessons.
