Martinez, Petersen Earn Fourth; Rutjens Is Sixth At State

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" is the quote the Falcon wrestlers have been repeating over and over this season.

Their hard work has paid off, proven by three medals coming back to Elkhorn Valley. All three wrestlers who qualified for the team earned medals on Saturday afternoon in Omaha.

Alejandro Martinez lost a 5-0 decision to Trace Baasch of Amherst for the 106-pound fourth-place medal while Chris Petersen was edged 4-3 by Brandon Jackson of Meridian at 182 pounds.

Noah Rutjens lost 3-0 to Andrew Fangman of Elgin Public/Pope John at 152 pounds, finishing in sixth place.
