Falcon Runners Compete At District Cross Country Meet

The Elkhorn Valley High School cross country runners competed in the Class D-4 District meet at Atkinson on Thursday afternoon.

In the girls' race, Rebecca Fleetwood crossed the finish line in 27:42 for 41st place.

For the boys, senior Justin Bellar led the way for the Falcons with a time of 19:54 for 17th place, followed by Alex Martinez and David Short, who both finished in 22:45 for 49th and 50th places, respectively. Dalton Smutny was 54th with a 23:23, followed by Travis Fleetwood and Isaiah Greenhalgh in 24:18 for 61st and 62nd, respectively. The Falcons finished 12th in the team standings.

There were runners from 17 schools competing in the meet. The top 15 individual medalists earned a trip to state, while the top 3 teams qualified.
