Elkhorn Valley Purchases Robots For Learning, Competition

Robots have arrived at Elkhorn Valley School! 

"We have purchased VEX Robots for two purposes," said Judi Sigler, guidance counselor. 

The school is now offering a robotics class, taught by industrial technology teacher Rusty Rautenberg, in which students will build and program an arm of a robot. 

"The purpose of the course is to introduce students to basic manufacturing concepts," Sigler said.

Secondly, EV has formed a robotics group that will build robots to compete against other robotics teams, she said. Other schools who currently compete in robotics include Battle Creek, O'Neill and Pierce. 

These competitions are sponsored by Wayne State College and Northeast. The next competition will be held in April at Northeast Community College. EV Robotics is sponsored by Sigler.

"We were able to purchase this equipment through the ESU 8 Perkins Consortium Special Projects grant," she said. "They offered an application last spring to be used toward a special project that will address student needs in the area of career and/or technical skills."
