Elkhorn Valley High School Band Travels To Chicago

The Elkhorn Valley band departed for their trip to Chicago after competing in the district music contest last Friday.  

Upon arrival, the students visited the 103rd floor of the Skydeck Chicago. Then they visited the Magnificent Mile for lunch and shopping.  After lunch, the Band performed for the residents of the Bethany Retirement Home. 

"It was a very rewarding experience for all," said Director Brenda Gale. "Later for dinner, they experienced the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. The Band’s Black and White knight did not win the gold, but did a great job trying." 

The next day, the 32 students and 9 sponsors went to the Shedd Aquarium where they observed 6,000 aquatic animals, watched a water show and a 4D movie on the Ice Age. 

They then went and watched the White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals. After departing the baseball game, a “gangster” tour guide entered the bus and gave an informative, yet very interesting synopsis of the gangsters in Chicago of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. 

After the tour, the group headed to Millennium Park to observe the Bean and saw the NFL Draft “set up” taking place. For dinner, the band visited Navy Pier.
