Wolfpack Split Pair Of Battle With Stuart On Friday

A trip to Stuart for the fans of Elgin Public/Pope John nearly saw them return home celebrating two victories. 

The Lady Wolfpack notched another win on the year on Friday, taking down the Broncos 49-29. EPPJ used an 18-4 first quarter to jump out to a comfortable lead and an 11-1 third quarter to seal the game.

Lydia Behnk and Paige Meis led all scorers with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Kaylee Martinsen nearly added a double-double, dropping in nine points and pulling down 10 rebounds. 

The boys game had everyone on the edge of their seats. Defense was king as neither team was able to find many easy looks at the basket, entering the fourth quarter with Stuart leading 26-23. The Wolfpack then went on a 5-0 run, capped by a Kyle Schumacher three-pointer to give the Wolfpack a 28-26 lead. The Broncos then scored four straight, making it 32-28 before Conor Ramold brought it to a one-possession game with his late left-handed lay in. The Wolfpack then got one last look with two seconds remaining, but Hunter Reestman's deep three-point attempt clanged off the rim without luck as they fell 32-30. 

Schumacher led the Wolfpack with 11 points on the night, including hitting both of his shots from three. Ramold went 3-for-5 to add seven points and Reestman added six while dishing out four assists.
