Wolfpack Relay Team Earns Ticket To State As Wildcard

An Elgin Public-Pope John relay team earned themselves a ticket to the state track meet after an impressive second-place finish at the district track meet was fast enough to earn them a wildcard spot.

The Wolfpack 1600 meter relay team of Kaylee Martinsen, Haley Zegers, Lydia Behnk and Paige Meis took second at the district track meet in Basset, finishing with a time of 4:22.67. Wildcards for the state track meet are chosen as the six best times in the state after the first place qualifiers from each district in the 1600 meter relay.

The Nebraska State Track Meet will be held Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 at Omaha Burke Stadium. Girls 1600 meter relay is set for 3:55 p.m. on Saturday.
