Wolfpack Can't Find The Board In Loss To Burwell

The opening night of the 2017 season didn't go quite as planned for Elgin Public/Pope John as they entered battle against the defending state champion, Burwell.

The Wolfpack struggled to keep up with the Longhorns in a 61-0 loss. 

Burwell jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead after just one quarter of play, extending the lead to 40-0 by the halftime break. They added their final three scores of the night in the second half to make a statement on opening night. 

The offense struggled to move the ball all night, mustering up just 31 yards. Conor Ramold completed two of his 12 attempts for 14 yards, with Kyle Schumacher and Cameron Nielsen on the receiving end of those two completions. 

On the ground, Hunter Reestman led the way with 28 yards. Schumacher added 10 while Ramold was under pressure all night, finishing with -21. 

On the defensive end, the Wolfpack were led by Schumacher's 10 tackles. Reestman added nine tackles of his own. Liam Heithoff was also busy, tacking on eight tackles, three of them solo. Nielsen added six more.
