Storms Unleash Downpour On Falcons At State

Elkhorn Valley kept busy on a chilly day for a track meet, competing five of their nine competitors on Friday at the State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke. 

Tyler Miller started the day off for the Falcons in the pole vault. The returning state qualifier finished in 17th place as he battle the cold and bested 10-06.00.

Hannah Ollendick hit the track next in the 100 meter hurdle prelims. The sophomore’s time of 17.60 was not quite enough to advance to the finals on Saturday.

Brayden Effle then took his turn at the hurdles in the 110 meter hurdle prelims. He too was unable to make the finals, running a time of 16.99. He later battled the downpour in the 300 meter hurdles, posting a time of 44.62.

Tucker Hecht was a bit busy on the day, competing in the high jump and the 400 meter dash. In the high jump, he tied for 18th with a best jump of 5-08.00. He then hustled over to the 400 meter dash prelims, falling short of the finals with a time of 55.08.

Austin Miller had arguably the toughest race of the day. The storms that had slowly built throughout the day unleashed their rain on the crowd just as the longest race of the day, the 3200 meter run, was about to start. That didn’t slow Miller down, however. He battled from a slow start to finish 12th in Class D with a time of 11:04.00.

Elkhorn Valley will get started early on Saturday as Amber Miller takes to the triple jump at 8:30 a.m.
