Stewart Hoping To End Dream Season With Gold Medal

Dillon Stewart has just one loss on the season. On Saturday, he doesn't plan to add anymore.

He will take part in the Class D 113-pound state championship match on Saturday after taking down Salvador Aguirre by way of a pin with just seven seconds left on the clock. Stewart trailed for much of the match but worked some magic and pulled out the exciting victory. He will meet Crawford's Trevor Nelson for first place.

Elkhorn Valley's four other wrestlers weren't quite as succesful on the day. 

At 120, Alejandro Martinez fell in the semifinals to Dominique Rickard of Plainview and will wrestle for a spot in the fifth or third place match.

Darren Stewart fell to Cameron Riggs of North Platte St. Patrick's in the semifinals and will also wrestle Saturday to decide which medal he will fight for.

Josh McFarland fell to Jaydon Elge of Nebraska Christian in the semifinals. He too will wrestle Saturday morning to determine which medal he will fight for.

In the consolations, Brock Schaecher fell to Niobrara/Verdigre's Clay Konopasek to be eliminated from the tournament.

In the team race, the Falcons now sit at fifth with 54 points. Burwell leads with 133 points.
