2017 season preview: Elgin Public/Pope John’s boys track squad will endure a rebuilding year in 2017, but it won’t be without talent to work with.

The Wolfpack lose all three of their state qualifiers from last season. They will look to their young talent to fill in the gaps.

One such athlete will be Kyle Schumacher. The sophomore will likely man the middle distance runs for the Wolfpack after having a solid year in 2016 doing so.

Coach Wes Prater will have to find fits for his young team after losing so many seniors from a strong team last season. However, he will have plenty to work with.

Seniors Brody Hupp and Kenny Bush, junior Ashton Evans and freshman Luke Henn are a few more names to keep an eye on to make an impact for EPPJ this year.

The Wolfpack will be busy this spring, starting March 27 at Fullerton. They will have nine more meets before potentially heading to state in Omaha.
