Six Warriors Medal To Lead N-O To Third Place

Six Warriors earned medals Friday night as the wrestling team finished third at the Weeping Water Invite.

Andrew Herley and Kaleb Pofahl both picked up championships in their weight. Herley, at 132 pounds, also won his 100th career match. In the final, last year's state runner-up pinned Max Revers of Omaha Concordia in 3:15 for his milestone victory. At 170 pounds, Pofahl pinned Justin Union of For Calhoun in 1:10 in the final to win the gold medal.

Several wrestlers finished runner-up on the day, including junior Jose Luna in one of his top performances of the season. At 152 pounds, Luna picked up a pair of wins by decision to advance to the final. Against Seth Rakes of Millard South, Luna was pinned in 1:40. 

Freshman Brock Kester (106) and junior Cameron Wilkinson (113) also finished with runner-up nods. Kester dropped a tough 9-5 decision to Jeremy McKee of Millard Sound in the final while Wilkinson was edged in a match that could have gone any way, losing 4-3 to Tyler Curtis of Fort Calhoun.

Rounding out the Warrior medalists was freshman Dawson Kaup, who placed fourth at 170 pounds. He had a pair of pins on the day, including a quick 41 second win over Trevor Pickard of Freeman.
