OC, Falcons Split Games With Overtime Thriller

The Cyclones wrapped up their last Clearwater home game with an eventful night of tied scores, overtime and even some little kids halftime basketball.

Taking on Elkhorn Valley in Clearwater, the two teams split their games with the lady Falcons taking the win and the Cyclone boys finishing in overtime.

After a tough girls matchup, the Falcons were able to pull away taking the Cyclones last home game 64-32. The game was close for the first quarter with the Cyclones just behind one point at 13-12. Pulling ahead by 15 points, the Falcons were able to go into halftime with a 31-16 score over OC. In the third, Elkhorn Valley continued to dominate 46-22 and securing their win in the fourth.

Leading the lady Falcons in points was Jasmine Wiese with 14 points, following right behind was Hannah Ollendick at 13 points, Bri Werner with 10, and Amber Miller with 9. Finishing the night for the Cyclone was Katie Stearns with 12 points, Brooklynn Chipps with 10, and Grace Rittscher with 4.

The Elkhorn Valley and Clearwater-Orchard boy’s game proved to be a thriller with a tied score at nearly the end of every quarter and finally finishing the game in overtime. The Cyclones were able to come out on top with a final of 66-58 over the Falcons.

Finishing the first quarter, the teams went into the second with a tied score of 13-13. Heading into halftime, they kept the tied score alive at 24-24. Finally breaking the tied score streak, the Cyclones were able to pull ahead in the third quarter 45-38 over the Falcons.

Taking the game into overtime, Bryson Anderson hit three-pointer with just seconds left to tie the score at 55-55. Unable to keep up with the Cyclones in overtime, the Falcons fell 58-66.

Leading the Falcons in points was Braedyn Ollendick with 21, Brayden Effle followed not far behind with 12, and Brandon Evans finished with 8 points. Finishing the night with 27 points was Jake Long, Blake Hoke following with 15, and Ryan Wilhelm with 11 points.

The Cyclones next game will be against Ewing in Orchard. The lady Falcons will take on Humphrey St. Francis on Thursday and the boys with take on St. Edward on Saturday.
