NSAA Approves Continued O-C Co-op

Although it has been the intention of Clearwater and Orchard to continue their relationship in athletics with all the upcoming changes, the Nebraska School Activities Association made it official this month.

At the official NSAA Board of Directors meeting on April 6, the continued Clearwater-Orchard co-op was approved by an 8-0 vote. The situation was unique due to the NSAA rules regarding football. According to the NSAA, schools cooperating in football must make a two-year commitment to play together. With the two schools deciding to split after year one of the current cycle, they had to apply for a special exemption to reclassify to a one-year co-op between the two schools. 

Volleyball, play production, wrestling, boys basketball, girls basketball, speech, boys track, girls track and boys golf, all of which require just a two-year commitment, were all approved for a cooperation for 2017-18 and 2018-19. 

The board also voted to require all wrestling schools to register for TrackWrestling software and services. TrackWrestling is a website that allows schools and fans to track the progress of wrestling matches as they happen.

The board also met with representatives from schools that participate in six-man football to finalize some details on potential expansion of NSAA governance of the six-man class.
