Neligh-Oakdale's Herley Claims Runner-Up Honors At State

Neligh-Oakdale sophomore Andrew Herley showed no fear Saturday evening as he battled one of the best wrestlers in the state.

In the Class D 132-pound state championship, Herley finished runner-up. Facing  Cameron Riggs of North Platte St. Patrick's, Riggs earned a tech fall in 2:55 for his third straight state championship.

Riggs took an early 2-0 lead  but Herley quickly cut that in half, showing he was not intimidated by the dominating wrestler. Riggs increased his lead to 11-1 as he worked toward a pin. But Herley scrambled and kept his shoulders off the mat. With the score at 16-1, Riggs took the tech fall.

    1st Place Match - Cameron Riggs (North Platte St. Patrick`s) 50-0 won by tech fall over Andrew Herley (Neligh-Oakdale) 40-8 (TF-1.5 2:55 (16-1))
