Neligh-Oakdale Freshmen Lead Golfers At O'Neill

Neligh-Oakdale braved more cold weather to compete in a dual meet at O’Neill on Monday.

"For the cold weather conditions, I thought our boys really competed well,” Coach Ron Beacom said. “We were able to cut another 5 strokes off of our overall team score in considerably less than ideal conditions."

The coach said the O’Neill course presented some challenges as well.

“It is a little longer course than what we practice on and the fairways are much tighter with a lot of trees, so it forced us to be more accurate and play a few clubs that we don't necessarily hit everyday," Beacom said.

Warrior freshman Caleb Payne shot a 47 for a third place finish to lead the Warriors. Rounding out the varsity squad were Garret Belitz, 49, 5th; Neven Kline, 52, 6th; Austin Rice, 53, 8th; and Brock Kester, 56, 10th. The JV players Colby Sehi and Trey Svatos carded a 77 and 78, respectively.

"We continue to improve every time out,” the coach said. “We need to continue to learn the game well enough that we make a few better decisions and that will take a few more strokes off of our score as well. This is a really fun group to work with and I'm excited to see them continue to improve."
