Neligh Legion Takes Two Wins On Opening Night

A beautiful opening night of baseball only got better as it went on for the Neligh Junior and Senior Legion teams on Tuesday.

Both teams pulled out season-opening wins over Albion to jump to 1-0 on the year.

The night started with the juniors, who took home a 17-6 win. Starter Jayden Arehart struggled out of the gate and Albion jumped all over the early-game struggles to post six runs in the first two innings. However, Cole Belitz was able to come in and stop the bleeding just in time for the Neligh offense to get going.

After a one-run first inning, nearly everyone scored for Neligh in the second en route to a 12-run burst. The Albion pitching staff faltered, allowing eight walks in the inning. Belitz really took advantage of the opportunity, driving in runs with a double and a triple in the inning alone. He finished the game a home run short of a cycle.

Other standouts for the Neligh Juniors were Arehart with three stolen bases, Austin Rice with a triple and three runs and Hunter Reestman with four RBIs.

In the seniors game, both squads started slow with just three total runs through the first two and a half innings of play. However, in the bottom of the third, Chris Bentley, Beau Murray and Tyson Zegers all crossed the plate to give Neligh a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the 9-4 win.

Tyson Belitz got the start on the mound for Neligh and helped his own cause at the plate with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Zegers had a strong night at the plate as well, going 4-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
