Falcons, Warriors Compete In EV Golf Quad Thursday

The Falcon and Warrior golf teams were able to squeeze in one meet between snow storms this week.

Elkhorn Valley hosted a quadrangular meet at the Antelope Country Club on Thursday with Neligh-Oakdale, Pierce and Plainview. The Pierce team won the meet with a 183, followed by Neligh-Oakdale at 206, Plainview 232 and Elkhorn Valley 246.

For Elkhorn Valley, Bryson Anderson placed fourth individually with a 46. Scores for the other Falcon varsity golfers were Darren Stewart 52 for 9th place, Zane Richardson 68, Ben Wilcox 79 and Josiah Wriedt 80. It was the first competitive outing of the season for the Falcons.

Garret Belitz and Nevin Kline led the way for the Warriors, shooting a 47 and 49 for 5th and 6th places, respectively. Caleb Payne was 8th with a 52. Rounding out the varsity squad were Brock Kester, 59, and Trey Svatos, 67.

"I'm really proud of the kids," N-O Coach Ron Beacom said. "They have practiced in less than ideal weather, and yet have focused well and have shown improvement."

He said, on average, each Warrior golfer scored four to five strokes better than just one week ago.

"We've honed some skills and will continue to improve," Beacom said. As we continue to play, we'll learn how to better manage the course and play a little smarter. When we do that, we'll see even more improvement in our scores. It's exciting to watch the improvement being made. It's still very early in the season. It'll be fun to see where we're at in six weeks."
