Elkhorn Valley's Dillon Stewart Claims First State Championship

Elkhorn Valley junior Dillon Stewart came from behind to win the 113-pound state championship on Saturday afternoon, sending the Falcon faithful into a frenzy.

Stewart defeated ​Trevor Nelson of Crawford 10-4 to win a gold medal in a back and forth battle.

Nelson went up 2-0 early in the first period, but Stewart quickly cut the lead in half. Nelson wasted little time going up 4-1. Stewart responded with a reversal to cut the lead to 4-3 to start the second period. 

Stewart used a takedown at the edge of the mat to take a 5-4 lead midway through the second period. Nelson scored two points right at the end of the second to regain the lead. Stewart then knotted the score at 6-all with an escape.  Stewart then scored four straight to seal the win.
