Cyclones Season Ends At Hands Of Elkhorn Valley

In the opening round of subdistricts, it was a heartbreaking end for one Antelope County team and a hopeful catalyst for another.

Clearwater-Orchard and Elkhorn Valley met in the opening round of the D1-6 subdistrict tournament in Plainview on Monday. The two squads battled in the first half, with the Falcons entering the break with a slim 28-24 lead. However, the second half was all Elkhorn Valley as they held the Cyclones to just three points in the third and cruised to a 59-41 victory to eliminate the Cyclones.

The Falcons were led by Hannah Ollendick's 14 points and Olivia Nall's 10. As a team, EV finished at 53 percent shooting in the win. Alyssa Rood was effective down low for the Falcons, adding nine points and seven rebounds.

For Clearwater-Orchard, Allison Kerkman led the way with 11 points. She almost recorded her first double-double of the year in unique fashion, coming away with an impressive nine steals. Those nine steals also happened to be a new Clearwater-Orchard single-game record.

​Kinzly Macke and Katie Stearns added nine points each and pulled down 10 and eight rebounds, respectively.

Elkhorn Valley advances to the second round of the tournament where they will meet North Central on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Plainview. The Cyclones season ends at 11-11.
