Bentley, Bode And Beacom Guide East Team

The 2017 Sertoma 8-Man All-Star Game was a steady affair through three quarters before a scoring explosion, partially fueled by Antelope County's own, finished the game out with fireworks.

The best players in all of Nebraska 8-man football met at Hastings College on Saturday for the 40th annual showdown between the East and West. Neligh-Oakdale's Chris Bentley and Elgin Public/Pope John's Chad Bode took the field for the East, coached on offense by Warrior head man Ron Beacom. Bentley served as one of the captains for the East in the game.

The East struck first, putting them up 8-0 after one quarter of play. However, the West then answered with 26 unanswered points over the next two and a half quarters, taking a 26-6 lead early in the fourth.

Both offenses really got on a roll in the final frame. After the West's quarter-opening score, the East finally got back on the board, scoring twice in the final frame. However, the West continued to match that as the two teams combined for 30 points on five touchdowns in the final quarter of play en route to the West's 38-20 win.

Much of the scoring for the East came once Bentley took the field on offense. After starting and playing much of the game at defensive end, Bentley came in at tight end and gave the East offense a big boost. He pulled in two catches, nearly scoring on his second one. He finished the game with two catches for 29 yards and three tackles. 

Bode got the start at running back, opening the game with an eight-yard run. He went on to finish with three carries for 12 yards and a catch for seven yards.
