Ready for a treasure hunt through Northeast Nebraska? Eight hundred people are expected to partake in the annual Bargain Buyway  this weekend.

According to Diane Ober of Royal, one of the founders of this event, there are 31 towns in eight different counties along the 250 mile loop participated in the 11th annual ultimate road trip where bargainers are encouraged to explore northeast Nebraska throughout their quests for re-found treasures.

Towns along the 250 mile loop are Royal, Orchard, Page, Inman, O’Neill, Emmet, Atkinson, Butte, Spencer, Bristow, Lynch, Monowi, Verdel, Niobrara, Verdigre, Winnetoon, Brunswick, Plainview, Neligh, Clearwater, Stuart, Bassett, Creighton, Ewing, LongPine, Ainsworth, Springview, Burton, Mills, Naper and Newport.

“The Bargain Buyway is an opportunity to encourage people and tourists to our area for a weekend of treasure hunting, bargain finding and sightseeing in the area,” Ober said.

Vendors and businesses in each town will have an eclectic collection of items. 

From rummage sales, antiques, old machinery, tools, equipment and food fairs, there is bound to be something for everyone.

Ober said the Bargain Buyway has more than doubled since she, along with her husband, Gary; and Paul and Denise Fisher of Lynch, coordinated the initial event 11 years ago.

“Eleven years ago, we started with 15 towns. We are excited to have about 350 visitors our first year. Now, we anticipate 700-800 people who travel along this route,” she said.

Ober said she is most excited about providing an opportunity for communities to work together to not only promote themselves, but the Northeast Nebraska area.

“It is so important for our small communities to promote themselves. We have so much to offer, but not many ways to get people to our area,” Ober said.
