Antelope County 4-Hers Compete In District Horse Shows

Five Antelope County 4-H members were among the 440 exhibitors who competed in the 2014 district horse shows recently.

The district shows had a combined 1,259 entries and were held in six locations across the state, including the Antelope County fairgrounds in Neligh on June 12. 

Antelope County 4-H results are:
 
Sadie Smutny (Meadow Grove): Western Pleasure Pony (red), Jr. Western Horsemanship (red), Jr. Pole Bending (red), and Jr. Barrel Racing (blue). 

Logan Mueller (Clearwater): Jr. Western Pleasure Horses (red), Jr. Western Horsemanship (red), and Jr. Reining (red).

Christen Curtis (Royal): Jr. Western Pleasure Horses (blue), and Jr. Western Horsemanship (purple-Reserve Champion). 

Clay Curtis (Royal): Jr. Pole Bending (red) and Jr. Barrel Racing (blue).

Cassidy Curtis (Royal): (Competed at district show in Leigh) Sr. Western Pleasure (purple) and Sr. Western Horsemanship (purple- Reserve Champion). 

Youth who earned purple or blue ribbons at districts - Sadie Smutny, Christen Curtis, Clay Curtis and Cassidy Curtis - qualified for the State 4-H Horse Expo to be held at Fonner Park in Grand Island, July 13-17. 

"These competitions are an opportunity for youth to showcase what they have learned through their 4-H horse project area and practice good sportsmanship," said Tessa Hain of the Antelope County Extension Office.

Hain said the district show in Neligh was a success, thanks to several Antelope County residents:

Devon Baum of Elgin sang the National Anthem and assisted as the ring steward; Sadie Smutny and Clay Curtis, flag bearers; Anne Meis (Elgin), Sandi Henn (Elgin), Corey Curtis (Royal), Erin Whitesel (Neligh), and Dewey Teel (Neligh), entry clerks; Marie Meis (Elgin) and Grace Henn (Elgin), ribbons; Tim and Kandi Hart of Tilden, equipment and time clerk; Kenny Oelsigle of Tilden, arena maintenance; Anthony Kester of Clearwater and Dewey Teel, gate; and The County Liners 4-H Club of Tilden, led by Kandace Stineman and Sonet Smutny, and the Rowdy Bunch 4-H Club of Neligh, led by Jennifer Carr and Alisha Carr, food service;  

"The extension staff would like to thank all of those who assisted and helped make the show a success!" she said. "Thank you! The show wouldn’t have been possible without your great work!"
