The Clearwater-Orchard TeamMates chapter is gearing up for another school year. With the change in location for some of our mentees, adjustments to meeting times are being worked out but our chapter remains strong and intact. Thank you to those involved for your flexibility.
The board is making plans for our annual tailgate party fundraiser to be held on Homecoming, September 22 during the OC vs. Ainsworth football game at Clearwater. The chapter will also be raffling off 2 quarters of pork and an OC season activity pass that evening. Tickets can be purchased at Hiway Mart in Clearwater and Dusty’s in Orchard as well as at the tailgate party before the winners are drawn. Thank you to everyone for your continued support of Clearwater-Orchard TeamMates. The chapter has an ongoing need for adult men and women who are willing to mentor a student for one hour, one day a week, on school grounds and during school hours. If interested, please contact either school office. Kickoff activities were enjoyed this past week at both school sites. This was a time for mentors and mentees to reconnect and set up meeting times for the upcoming year. Chapter coordinator Diane Martin shared about The Kindness Rocks Project and how Megan Murphy used the simple act of writing encouraging messages on rocks to uplift other people. This began on a beach at Cape Cod and has blossomed into a huge nation-wide craze. OC TeamMates is taking part in the project and invites community members to join in. Those in attendance at the kickoff parties painted rocks and wrote inspirational messages on them. The rocks will be placed throughout the Clearwater and Orchard communities with the hopes of spreading kindness and positivity. If you find one of these rocks and feel the need to keep it, please do so and then pay it forward by creating one of your own. Or place the one you found somewhere for another person to discover and brighten their day. The following excerpt was taken from thekindnessrocksproject.com. For more information, visit the website and let’s rock Clearwater and Orchard with kindness! What our world needs now is kindness and connection. What if kindness became contagious and everyone realized we are all truly connected? What if we were able to block out all the negativity that surrounds us and we were only receptive to thoughts, images and ideas that were positive and uplifting? What if kindness became a connecting force for good? Together we can make this happen. We tune into the media and are bombarded by negativity. We can’t help being affected by all of it. Imagine, just for one moment, that these images focused on optimism where acts of kindness are given the spotlight and everyday heroes are celebrated and idolized. We have become lulled into a pessimistic perspective where even inspirational words become meaningless. They adorn our coffee cups, are sewn into our t-shirts but we have become numb to their true meaning. These words only seem to come alive during times of crisis. We only pay attention to their true meaning when we need them most. They spark hope and reignite faith. Yet, once we have sailed through our storm successfully we again lose sight of their power. So how do we break this cycle and reconnect with words such as love, faith, hope and gratitude? How do we bring them back into our everyday awareness? By participating in random daily acts of kindness! When we remember to hold the door for someone, smile at a stranger, or help someone in need, then we become the change we wish to see in the world. It’s a simple law of attraction. When you put positive energy into the world it comes back to you. Each of us has the power to create small daily positive shifts that will make a huge impact in our lives, our community, and our world at large. So, what are you going to do? |
