Teacher Feature: Jim Schutt, Orchard

Get to know our teacher feature of the week, Jim Schutt. The history teacher at Orchard Public Schools. 

Where did you graduate from high school? What year? Graduated from Gretna High School ‘The Dragons’ Gretna, NE in 1979.

What college did you attend? (years & degree) Graduated from University Nebraska-Lincoln in 1984 with a BS in Education. Graduate hours from Wayne State College.

What places have you taught? I have taught 32 years, all in Orchard.

What subject/class do you teach? 7-12 Social Studies.

What is your favorite part of teaching? Favorite part of teaching is that it is a new experience everyday and I get to help students become the best that they can be.

What are most excited about for 2017-18 school year? I am most excited for this school year because it is a new year. By this, I mean that every year is exciting with new ideas, students and happenings.

Do you have any extracurricular activities you are in charge of? (explain if yes) I am the Head Boys Basketball Coach for the OC Cycles, Athletic Director, Senior Class sponsor, and Quiz Bowl Sponsor at Orchard Public Schools.

What are your classroom goals for the year? My classroom goals are simple. Try your best, respect others and SMILE everyday.

What brought you to teach here? I came to teach and coach in Orchard 32 years ago because I wanted to teach and coach in a small school and this fit the bill.

Can you tell me a little bit about your family? I have been married for 30 years in December to Kristi and have three sons; Tanner, who is a Middle School Principal at Boone Central and married to Sara, who is a nurse at Boone County Hospital in Albion, Tyson, who is in the AGricultural Field and Tate, a Mortuary Science Student. Also, Wrigley the mini-dachshund!

What are your hobbies? I like to play golf, cook different foods, smoke ribs, support Husker Football, spend time with my family, and everything CUBS BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!
