Sound Of Music: Orchard Couple Enjoys Husker Band Reunion

Football. Love. Band. 

For an Orchard couple, the three go hand in and hand - and they were all on display Saturday as the Huskers kicked off the football season and the annual Nebraska Band Alumni Reunion took place. 

Colton and Nikki Hahn, who will celebrate their second wedding anniversary next month, joined hundreds of band alumni Saturday for events, including a televised performance on the Big Ten Network. Nebraska defeated Fresno State 43-10 on Saturday. 

"When you graduate, everyone goes their separate way, and you often only get to stay in touch via social media or phone," Nikki Hahn said. "So, for the alumni game each year, we get an opportunity to get together to see each other and do what we love again."

Colton and Nikki, who both played trombone, actually met through the Husker band.

Colton is a 2008 graduate of Orchard Public School and in 2013 graduated from Nebraska's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He currently works for Petersen Ag Systems. Nikki is a 2008 graduate of Waverly High School and in 2012 graduated from Nebraska's College of Arts and Sciences. She works at Blackburn Manufacturing. 

They've lived in Orchard since 2014.

Brothers Colton and Corey Hahn both played during the Nebraska Band Alumni Reunion on Saturday.

Nikki said marching band takes up so many hours of a student's time while in college that the other band members become family. That's why they try to go to as many band reunions as possible.

Also at Saturday's reunion was Colton's older brother, Corey, a 1998 graduate of Orchard Public Schools. He earned his electrical engineering degree from UNL in 2003 and his master's in 2005 from Penn State. Corey currently is an electrical engineer at Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies in Colorado. 

Nikki said Saturday was a great day to reconnect with old friends and make new ones as well, which is what college at Nebraska was all about.

"It's neat to meet new people, like the current members or even other alumni who played the same instrument as you, but several years before your time. Setting all of that aside, though, just getting to be in Memorial stadium or be on the field on game day is an incredible feeling," Nikki said.
