Small Team Finds Big Success At Powerlifting Meet

​Nine lifters from the Cyclone Powerlifting Team traveled to Beatrice this weekend for the Beatrict Powerlifting Invitational.

The huge meet, with a line-up of 205 lifters, provided very stiff competition for the Cyclones rankings as the smallest school at the meet.

“We can be very proud of the way our students competed and conducted themselves in representing our school and communities,” said Coach Jeff Shabram.

The Clearwater-Orchard boys team finished in 8th place.  1st place Omaha South; 2nd place Lexington; 3rd place Beatrice; 4th place Omaha Central; 5th place Columbus High; 6th place Lincoln High; 7th place Shenandoah, IA; 8th place O-C; 9th place Columbus Scotus; 10th place Columbus Lakeview.

The Cyclones had one individual medalist, Derek Maxwell, who finished 5th place in the 148 lb. weight class. Shabram said that this is a huge accomplishment for Maxwell and the team considering many of the weight classes had 20+ lifters in them.

The team has one girl competitor, JacKay Humphries, who finished in 10th in the 198+ lb. weight class. Among the other Cyclone competitors were Cade Mlnarik 9th place (123 lb. class), Tyler Wright 16th place (165 lb. class), Ira Lampert 12th place (165 lb. class), Caleb Krebs 13th place (198 lb. class)  and Shawn Buxton 6th place (220 lb class).

Gunnar Shabram (148 lb. class) and Wyatt Shabram (114 lb. class) competed as exhibition lifters in the high school meet, both setting new personal records.

The next powerlifting meet currently on the schedule for the O-C lifters will be the Class D State Powerlifting Championships held March 24th at Parkview Christian High School in Lincoln.
