Severe Weather Warning System To Be Tested

With the severe weather season quickly approaching, the city of Orchard is preparing.

On Friday, April 6 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Orchard Fire & Rescue Department, along with the Orchard Public Schools, will be conducting a test of the Severe Weather Warning System in Orchard.

The whistle will sound as if a tornado has been spotted. This would be a good time for businesses as well as residents of the area to be sure that emergency plans are complete.

Emergency plans should include the best area to take cover, a small portable radio, a flashlight with good batteries, and some food and water items. Also, check with elderly or disabled neighbors if they need assistance.

The signal for a tornado or threatening weather is a steady three minute blast. After the test is complete, the all clear signal of the same steady tone will sound for one minute.

This test will take approximately ten to twenty minutes and will not be done if threatening weather is in the area.
