Orchard Village Board Swears In Board Members, Reorganizes

Orchard's village board has a new member.

During Monday's monthly meeting, John Ferguson was sworn into office for the first time. Ferguson will be taking Elden Schacht's seat. Dennis Clifton was also re-elected this year.

The board also reorganized during the meeting. Glenn Cheatum, previously in charge of parks and recreation, will now oversee the cemetery. Curt Mitties will continue taking care of roads and Dwight VanOstrand will continue overseeing water and sewer. Ferguson will oversee parks and recreation. 

The board also appointed Ferguson as the third authority to sign checks.

Another topic of discussion during the board meeting was Brenda Harrison’s health insurance. Harrison, the village clerk, has been working 35 hours a week, now legally considered full-time. The board voted to cover a portion of Harrison’s health insurance.
