The 2014 Orchard St. Jude Bike-a-thon was held on Saturday and participants are still collecting pledges until Thursday. All of the money will go to children's cancer research.
There were 52 riders/walkers/runners in attendance at the event.
"We had glorious weather Saturday morning when the participants rode as hard as they could for 1 ½ hours," Jeff Shabram said. "At the end of the morning …the miles were totaled up, and it was an outstanding 373 miles ridden! Thank you to all the participants."
The participants were Gunnar Shabram, Wyatt Shabram, Jeff Shabram, Dane Miller, Ayden Williams, Ashton Williams, Jaykwon Petite, Ryan Wilhelm, Autumn Jackson, Aubrey Jackson, Avery Jackson, Heather Jackson, Lou Nelson, Cody Wickersham, Kaci Wickersham, Cash Wickersham, Coy Wickersham, Spot (the dog) Wickersham, Preston Hoke, Mason Hoke, Blake Hoke, Ashton Cleveland, Ava Cleveland, Lakin Cleveland, Liam Cleveland, Shayna Cleveland, Staci Rifer, Lexi Rifer, Ryan Rifer, Jeremiah Merberger, Mercedes Merberger, Chris Robinette, Sonia Salas, Uriel Salas, Travis Cooper, Jason Shaver, Jaelyn Shaver, Journey Shaver, Jessica Shaver, Caige Anson, Carter Anson, Charlie Anson, Tristan Ahlers, Shirley Gudenschwager, Morgan Anson, and Jocie Anson.
"(The participant's) strong legs and bodies can help heal the bodies of sick children at St. Jude’s Children’s hospital," Shabram said.
He said he would like to give "a big thank you" to the helpers… Amanda Shabram, Staci Rifer, Erin Schwager, Jagger Smith, Heaven Smith, and Sara Trease; and to Monte & Rita Shabram for the snacks & prizes.
The award for the most miles ridden went to Tristan Ahlers of Clearwater with 21 miles! So far… the most money collected is from Jason Shaver with $190.51. The kids had collected and turned in $730 by the start of the bike-a-thon. Our goal is to raise $2,000 in pledges for the bike-a-thon.
"Thank you to the community, family and friends for supporting these kids in their fundraising mission for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital," he said. "Please consider a donation if a child asks you for a pledge."
