By CATHY COOPER Nebraska Beef in Schools is a movement sweeping across Nebraska spurred by local cattemen groups and other agricultural organizations. Its mission is “promoting Nebraska Beef for School lunch programs and encouraging beef education and nutrition throughout Nebraska schools.” Orchard Public School would like to become a part of this exciting movement. For our school to implement this program and for it to be successful, we need community support and assistance. This support can come from ranchers, business owners, families, or individuals and can be in the form of the donation of a locally raised critter for slaughter, the donation of the processing fee at a USDA inspected facility, or monetary donations toward either of these . The Orchard Educational Foundation (Ernie Gudenschwager, Barb Kiley, Rita Shabram, Clifford Erb, Marvin Haswell, and Dale Rabbass) has agreed to help facilitate our program by allowing tax deductible donations to be made through the foundation to supply and fund the Orchard Public Schools Nebraska Beef in Schools Program. Deb Schwager and Anita Tabbert, our school’s kitchen staff, are also on board with this program and are working to determine the best methods of cooking and serving the beef to our students and staff here in Orchard. If you are interested in donating toward the implementation of this exciting new program, please contact Mrs. Cathy Cooper via phone at (402)893-3215 or via email at [email protected]. We are hoping to receive donations this year in order to implement the program during the next school year. We thank you in advance for your support. |
