OC Powerlifting Brings Home Hardware From State

The 2018 Class D High School State Powerlifting Championships were held in Lincoln this weekend, and the Cyclone Powerlifting team came away from the day with several champions, a high school boys team championship, a girls team 3rd place finish and co-ed team championship trophy.

Several lifter came away from the day setting numerous personal bests, with a special trophy was awarded to a Cyclone.

Senior Creston Bertschinger was awarded the outstanding individual male lifting 1,031 pounds and weighing in at 156 pounds. The outstanding female lifter was Elsie Magwire (AAU and USAPL world recorder holder) from Boyd County.

Finishing in first place, Clearwater-Orchard boys team finished the day at 86 points with Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer (62 pts) following in second, and Harvard finishing in third.

Finishing the day in third place, the Clearwater-Orchard girls team finished the day with 15 points, just behind second place Boyd County, and first place Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer.

Clearwater-Orchard took first place in Co-Ed standings, finishing with 79 points over second place Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer (72), and third place Boyd County.
The team also came away from the day with seven individual state champions, along with numerous school records set.

In the girls competition, Brooklynn Chipps was crowned state champion in her weight class, while breaking school records in every category: squat at 231 lbs., bench press 143 lbs., deadlift 320 lbs., and a 694 lb. total. JacKay Humphries also earned a bronze medal in her weight class.

Taking home the gold for the Cyclones was Rafe Grebin at 123, Derek Maxwell at 148, Creston Bertschinger at 165, Houston Marino at 181, Shawn Buxton at 220, and Zane Herley and 275+.

Finishing with a silver medal was Cyclones, Cade Mlnarik at 123, Ira Lampert at 165, Anthony Umphress at 181, and Anthony Marino at 242. Caleb Krebs finished the day as a bronze medalist at 198. In the 165 class, Tyler Wright earned a 5th place medal, and Tyler Bellar earned a 6th place medal.

In addition to the high school lifters, Gunnar Shabram at 165 and Wyatt Shabram at 88 competed as exhibition lifters in this high school meet and both set all new personal records while bringing home medals.
 
The Cyclones final meet of the year will be at the Orchard AAU Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, April 14, at the Orchard High School gym, with lifting beginning at 9 a.m.
