Kuhfal Loves Seeing Her Students Succeed

It isn’t hard to see the pride in Rebekah Kuhfal’s eyes when she talks about her students and performers. Whether it’s teaching a math class, or a one-on-one interaction with one of Clearwater-Orchards speech performers, she takes a great deal of joy with seeing them grow and succeed.

“The most rewarding part about teaching is seeing the light bulbs go off on a kid, when they get finally get a concept, seeing the light go off in their eyes.” said Kuhfal, math teacher and speech coach at Clearwater-Orchard High School. 

Kuhfal was asked to help coach speech late in her first semester teaching at the school, and she sees only potential from the kids. Even when they aren’t performing at their best.

“Seeing them from the beginning stages, trying to get through their first meet, slowly getting better and better,” she said. “It’s so rewarding because you know they worked to get to that point.”

So far it’s been a successful season for the OC perfomers despite having a smaller number of participants than most schools. 

“Even though we are small, we are mighty,” Kuhfal said. “Our duets are doing really well. I can only imagine as we work with them with pacing and pausing how much better we’re going to get.”

Kuhfal is always willing to be there whenever a student has a question about class, speech or need her for emotional vsupport or advice. 

There’s been times where she’s come to school an hour and a half before school starts because it was the only time that fit her schedule

“I’m always willing to be there when they need me,” Kuhfal said.
