Jacobsen Named Outstanding Teacher Of The Year

An Orchard graduate was recently named the ACTEN Outstanding Career and Technical Teacher of the Year.

Ronita Jacobsen is the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Plainview High School and was recognized last Wednesday in Kearney.

She has been an active member of many groups and organizations since 1994, including holding offices and serving on committees. Jacobsen has continued her leadership within ACTEN by serving as a FCSTN divisional representative. Her service continued as an officer of the Nebraska Career Education and Innovation Fund and on the Region V Marketing Committee. 

In previous years, Jacobsen has written curriculum in a variety of areas. She was recently the leading teacher in the FACS Standards Writing Team-Design Program of Study. Her dedication to Plainview’s chapters are also very apparent. Jacobsen re-chartered the Plainview FCCLA Chapter in 1999 and started an Educator’s Rising Chapter along with a Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society. She continues to sponsor all three programs and activities sending many members to districts, state and national competitions. 

Many of her students believe she has high moral standards and a great work ethic that earns many of her peers’ respect. Jacobsen also demonstrates that hard work is essential for a successful future. 

The daughter of Ron and Earla Carlson, Jacobsen graduated from Orchard High School in 1990 and attended Wayne State College where she received a bachelor’s (1994) and master’s degree (1998) in family and consumer sciences education.
