The Orchard gym is getting a facelift this summer. Cathy Cooper, principal at the Orchard location of Clearwater-Orchard Schools, said the gym flooring was removed last week in preparation for the new wood floor. At the Clearwater-Orchard Joint Advisory Board meeting in May, the board approved Option 1 of having Anderson Ladd replace the current gym floor and tile with wood floor, covering the gym floor wall to wall for an estimated amount of $68,700. Cooper said some cement work will need to be done to fill the uneven spots. The new floor will be installed later this summer.
"When we took out the old flooring, we were pleasantly surprised at the concrete. You can see some unlevel spots, though," she said. Cooper said the gym floor was installed in 1963 and has been a great floor for a very long time and still looked very good.
Because of some dead spots, she said it was time to replace it and keep updating the facility.
"We'll be covering the entire gym with the new floor. Currently, there's tile on the sides," Cooper said. "Hopefully, that will accommodate more hoops for basketball and have two volleyball courts side by side."
